Built upon the industry standard Rigaku Alchemist platform, but with a compact footprint and price, the Desktop Alchemist offers the ability to dispense reagents from ethanol to 100% glycerol with unsurpassed accuracy and precision, ensuring reliable and repeatable results without wasting any expensive additives, detergents or chemicals. Employing time tested and patented Eppendorf® Combitips® Plus positive-displacement non-contact dispensers, in conjunction with Rigaku Tapper™ technology as part of the unique patented BirdFeeder™ assembly, ensures that the correct volume is dispensed — regardless of the density or viscosity of the liquid — down to 1 μl with a total CV of less than 2%.
Built in stock solution storage and management
Solving the stock solution storage and management problem, the Desktop Alchemist CrystalTrak™ database holds thousands of stock chemicals that can be added or removed from the 26-position deck in a matter of seconds using barcoded BirdFeeder assemblies. Rigaku BirdFeeders then provide one aspirate with multiple dispenses — in a volume range of 1 μl to 10 ml — directly into VDX, Linbro or Nextal plate formats. Delivering custom screens without pumps and tubing, BirdFeeder technology provides self-contained liquid dispensing and individual stock solution management, with barcode tracking, individual syringes to assure against cross contamination, and integral long-term storage, all in one revolutionary design.
Software-guided fine screen production
Included with every Desktop Alchemist, CrystalTrak™ is a relational database application that simplifies and aids in the crystallization process by providing tools that enable users to greatly improve crystallization trial productivity with minimal user intervention, design well-targeted experiments, efficiently use protein samples and set up reproducible optimization experiments. CrystalTrak enables users to create crystallization screens simply and easily, allowing the setup of any type of gradient and then performing all the calculations and pipetting automatically.
