Automation for protein crystallography

Crystallization of proteins is a critical bottleneck in structural biology. Hundreds of crystallization conditions must be examined to find one that produces a well-diffracting crystal. Automation can improve the success rate of this process. Rigaku offers a complete range of systems to automate each step of the protein crystallization process, from protein to crystal and from crystal to data collection and structure solution. The optional Gallery 160 Plate Hotel (shown to the left of the Desktop Minstrel) adds more plate capacity and provides random access plate storing and imaging on both a batch and scheduled basis.

Desktop Minstrel UV — ultraviolet crystal imaging and analysis system 
The Desktop Minstrel UV is the world's first fully automated UV imaging and protein crystal monitoring system. This unique system uses UV fluorescence imaging of fluorescing amino acids in proteins to clearly identify protein crystals and distinguish them from non-protein crystals, such as salt.
