OSCAR: Optional Storage Capacity for the ACTOR Robot

OSCAR is a plate storage area and handling robot that expands the ACTOR systems abilities to process large amounts of room temperature samples. OSCAR is mobile and can either be mounted or removed when cryogenic samples need to be processed creating a more flexible input to the ACTOR.

A specialty carrier sample plate, designed to hold 24 samples each, can be loaded on or off site and transported to OSCAR at a beam line. They are covered, stackable, and allow for maximum protection during transport. The entire plate inventory is tracked via barcodes.

OSCAR is designed to handle a hydrogen peroxide vapor washdown in the event of a compromised sample and decontamination with no ill effects. OSCAR has both software and hardware interlocks to allow complete and safe interaction with the ACTOR. Each step of this sensitive process is command driven by an operator for the ultimate of safety.
