Macromolecular training: X-ray generators, detectors, optics, alignment, software

Rigaku Americas is pleased to offer valuable training sessions to teach you and your staff how to keep your Rigaku diffraction equipment running in excellent shape and how to extend the lifetime of your equipment by hands-on training from service specialists.

The format of the course is a series of short lectures on theory followed by hands-on activities with actual Rigaku detectors and X-ray generators in our Texas facility. Safety is emphasized throughout the course.

You will learn how to replace filaments, troubleshoot alarms, and perform simple repairs of Rigaku rotating anode X-ray generators. You will also be trained to align your complete X-ray system to produce the most X-rays possible in order to collect the best diffraction images. Participants learn to judge when their Rigaku X-ray detectors (both CCD and imaging plates are covered) are in tip-top shape and performing well. You will learn how to monitor and tune cryosystems and how to determine the appropriate time for filter changes and other scheduled maintenance. You will learn how to cryoprotect crystals and mount them in the cryogenic gas stream. You will learn how to collect and process diffraction images.

You will troubleshoot all the common problems that users encounter as well as receive instruction in even more advanced techniques not usually learned by graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. This course is a MUST for scientists with Rigaku equipment.

You will be trained by Rigaku service engineers with more than 50 combined years of experience with your equipment. Software, data collection and cryocrystallography lectures are given by crystallographers with more than 30 years of experience.

When you have completed the course you will be so-welled trained at the end of this course that you will be able to keep your equipment performing at the most optimum level. Furthermore, you will be able to do all this quickly and efficiently which means less down time and lower costs of running your system.

Upcoming session(s):

  • March 24-26, 2010
  • October 20-22, 2010

Sessions begin Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. and end Friday at 6:00 p.m. The three-day program fee is $1500 for the first person from a facility and $1100 for each additional person from the same facility. We are offering a 20% discount of these fees for participants from facilities with a current Rigaku service contract. The session will be limited to twelve (12) persons total (dependent on demand, we reserve the right to limit enrollment to one person per facility). Separating into two groups of 6 facilitates an individual approach to the training.

We reserve a block of rooms at a nearby hotel with a special rate for the training session. Rigaku's own travel agent is available to help you with your travel arrangements. Payment may be made by purchase order, facility check or credit card. Lunch each day and the group dinner are included in the program fee. Please return the registration form and survey form no later than four weeks prior to the session you plan to attend this session. Further instructions/information will be forwarded upon receipt of the registration.
