Availability of cryogenic gaseous and liquid nitrogen are critical to many areas of technology today. Lack of availability can completely disrupt many types of operations—from semiconductor fabrication to drug discovery research. To address this problem, Rigaku has developed self-contained systems—for providing cryogenic (temperature regulated) nitrogen gas and/or liquid nitrogen—using only air, electricity, and cooling water.

Rigaku cryogenics for NMR

Conventional superconducting NMR spectrometers are completely dependant upon a continuous supply of LN2 for their operation. Instead of relying on inconvenient large and heavy dewars, or difficult-to-maintain built-in plumbing, the Rigaku NitroGen allows LN2 to be produced and delivered exactly where it is needed, with operational costs comparable to those of commercially produced LN2.

One NitroGen generator can supply several devices. With available capacities from 10 to 60 liters/day, the NitroGen can easily service the LN2 requirements of a 900 MHz NMR spectrometer, with enough spare capacity to provide temperature regulated N2 gas (g) for a variable temperature (VT) probe. Smaller models can simultaneously supply several low-field NMR, TXRF, EDXRF or EDS-SEM instruments with enough reserve to provide LN2 from the front tap for other uses.
