Rigaku launches new products at ACA 2006

MIAutoStructure™ Automated Macromolecular Structure Solution Software, Saturn A200 Large Area CCD Detector, MicroMax™-002+ Microfocus Sealed Tube Source, and SHINE High Performance Optic

The Woodlands, TX — July 21, 2006. Rigaku Americas Corporation is pleased to announce its attendance at the 56th annual American Crystallographic Association meeting running from July 22 - 27 at the Honolulu Sheraton Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii. Rigaku will be exhibiting its advanced lines of single crystal X-ray diffraction and crystallization automation instrumentation at Booth #300. The 480 square foot island exhibit will be debuting the new Saturn A200 large area CCD detector, the innovative MicroMax-002+ microfocus sealed tube source, MIAutoStructure automated macromolecular structure solution software, and the high performance SHINE optic. In addition, Rigaku will be showcasing a variety of their core products for macromolecular and small molecule crystallography.

The new Rigaku Saturn 210 is the first "next generation" large area CCD detector to be offered. Incorporating a 2 x 2 array of the newest and most advanced Kodak® KAF-4320E CCD chips, with a 200 x 200 mm active area, the Saturn A200 brings a new dimension to both synchrotron and home laboratory data collection. With a high readout speed (4 x 2 MHz) and very low noise, the system provides advanced performance benefits made possible by front-illuminated Kodak BluePlus™ indium-tin-oxide (ITO) gate technology and the new Camera Link® high-speed serial data communications interface.

Blending next generation sealed tube microfocus X-ray generation technology with the latest developments in graded multilayer optical design and manufacture, the Rigaku MicroMax-002+ provides up to twice the usable X-ray flux as compared to currently available microfocus sealed tube products. Rigaku is known for its proven reliable, high performance, low maintenance generators. The MicroMax-002+ complements the existing Rigaku line of generators, which extend from the MicroMax-007 HF and FR-E SuperBright™ microfocus rotating anode generators to the standard sealed tube and ultraX 18 rotating anode systems.

MIAutoStructure is a new automatic macromolecular crystal structure solution software suite that includes tools and features developed during the first phase of the Rigaku Automatic Structure Consortium (ASC). Running on both Windows® and Linux® platforms, and including MIFitPlus, PyDInt, d*TREK®, and a set of Python scripts, this fully featured package delivers automatic protein:ligand structure ("bind and grind") solution and automatic ligand density docking.

When Rigaku introduced the Osmic Confocal Max-Flux® optical system, it revolutionized optic performance for macromolecular applications. Rigaku is again setting the standard for small molecule applications with the new SHINE optic. Available as an upgrade for any of the Rigaku small molecule crystallography systems, including the SCXmini™, the Kappa Saturn 724 and the R-AXIS SPIDER, the new SHINE optic enables 2X faster data collection for the same data quality.
