Fast standard-less semi-quantitative analysis of metal alloys

The ability to quickly and efficiently differentiate between specialty alloy blends is a very important analysis tool needed by alloy manufacturers, customers, and reclamation companies. X-ray fluorescence spectrometry is a simple technique that can easily analyze specialty alloy blends.

As an example a metallic block standard of IARM 175B shown in figure 1 was analyzed on the Rigaku ZSX Primus II using SQX, Rigaku's standardless semi-quantitative analysis program.

The XRF spectrum that was generated is shown in Figure 2.

Table 1 shows the numerical results of the semi-quant analysis. The results are excellent. The ability to measure these types of materials without the need to obtain calibration standards makes the technique more applicable to a wider range of users.
