Optics for high resolution XRD
For applications where desired diffraction peaks are too close to each other to resolve using broad spectrum radiation, the technique of choice is high resolution X-ray diffraction (HR-XRD). Increased resolution is achieved by utilizing a natural crystal, like Si <111> or Ge <220>, to filter the X-ray beam to a much narrower bandpass (e.g., the Cu Kα1 line).
Rigaku Max-Flux® optics collect a much larger portion of a divergent X-ray source and place more photons within the bandpass of the natural crystal. Intensity gains of near 20X are achievable depending on the selection of the high resolution monochromator and allowable beam size, the system configuration, and Max-Flux optic selection.
OEM manufacturers using Max-Flux optics in high resolution applications include: PANalytical, Seifert - AGFA, Bede, Thermo, Inel, and Ital.
