The power of powder techniques is such that they have had an impact in most of the major developments in the field of new materials during recent years - with solid electrolytes, high-temperature superconductors, fullerenes, zeolites and giant magnetoresistance materials being obvious examples. As a consequence, powder diffraction has been transformed into one of the most exciting areas in scientific instrumentation.

D/MAX RAPID II curved imaging plate systems for 2D X-ray scattering

The D/MAX RAPID II general purpose area detector system is designed for applications in general powder diffraction, micro-diffraction, wide angle X-ray scattering (WAXS), stress and texture measurements, and single crystal X-ray structure determination.

Adam Matzger, University of Michigan
(ActiveX component)

The system incorporates a large curved image plate design for maximum reciprocal space coverage and an integral 3.0 kW sealed tube or high brightness 1.2 kW rotating anode X-ray source. Capable of analyzing samples as small as 10 microns, the system is ideal for the non-destructive identification of small particles and incorporated aggregates from a wide range of samples. The system includes a fully integrated CCD camera system with zoom capabilities to image sample areas down to 1 micron. Applications in geology, semiconductor process control, forensic science, and objects conservation benefit from the fast and accurate data collection capabilities of the imaging plate detector. XY mapping capabilities allow the measurement at precise locations of larger samples. The system is coupled with Rigaku's AreaMax software for processing of the imaging plate data and input into a variety of Rigaku analysis software packages.
