Staff Accountant (The Woodlands, TX)

The staff accountant position will work in a fast-paced and team-oriented atmosphere while servicing the accounting needs of a growing company.  Candidates for this role should have strong critical thinking skills, ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbal, be detail oriented, and have good organizational skills.  Candidates should also be comfortable with learning technology and using it as a tool to gain efficiencies and accuracy in their work.  All daily activities must be performed with the highest ethical standards, confidentiality and integrity.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Daily cash application and bi-weekly payment reconciliation tasks. 
    • Monitoring various bank accounts to ensure that bank activity corresponds with G/L postings (daily)
    • From a Cash/AR perspective, responsibilities will include recording customer payments to appropriate accounts and resolving discrepancies between cash received and billed amount (daily)  
    • From a Cash/AP perspective, ensuring that A/P payments transmitted through the bank portal agree with G/L postings (bi-weekly)  
    • Recording of bank fees, foreign exchange gain/losses, uploading Positive Pay files and resolving bank exceptions/issues (daily)
  • Assist the accounting team in the month-end close process which includes:
    • Preparing bank reconciliations
    • Preparing monthly journal entries for multiple entities
    • Timely reconciliation of balance sheet accounts with proper supporting documentation
    • Review and understand P&L statements
    • Provide responses to Operational managers by researching and interpreting data
    • Assist accounts receivable and accounts payable staff in resolution of issues
    • Meet reporting deadlines
    • Intercompany reconciliations
    • At times, may assist with preparation of invoices to parent company for expense reimbursements
  • Assist with state sales & federal income tax reporting (i.e. reconciling or preparing supplemental schedules)
  • Assist with preparing external audit related schedules and gathering supporting documents
  • Prepare ad hoc financial reports, as necessary
  • Identify and proactively communicate suggestions for process improvements
  • Provide support for other accounting functions as needed

Required Education, Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Minimum of 3-5 years in accounting is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables, etc.)
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • High degree of accuracy with a good eye for detail
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and achieve results in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Must have some flexibility of work hours and ability to potentially put in extra hours during peak times
