Systems Engineer (Wilmington, MA)

Description

Rigaku Analytical Devices (RAD), a subsidiary of Rigaku Corporation, a global supplier of innovative analytical instruments for cutting-edge applications in biotechnology, is currently looking for a Systems Engineer. The Systems Engineer/Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for leading and coordinating product development efforts in a multidisciplinary engineering team.  The candidate will drive development of the handheld product line through all stages spanning ideation, prototyping, commercial release, sustaining, and end-of-life.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Has demonstrated experience and success with a formal product development process (stage-gate or New Product Introduction).
  • Directly leads product development efforts with team members (electrical, mechanical, and software) in a defined project environment.
  • Works cross-functionally with manufacturing and product management groups to coordinate needs, issues, and expectations of the engineering team.
  • Routinely communicates project status to team and organization, including raising awareness for program issues and driving to resolutions.
  • Drive and coordinate teams’ deliverables for formal gate reviews.
  • Deep understanding of process improvement sufficient to coordinate manufacturing process changes across functional departments.
  • Ability to work independently, when necessary, and to interface with multidisciplinary teams, working across departmental boundaries.
  • Handle obsolesces and sourcing issues, working with the engineering team to resolve.
  • Review designs and give input and feedback to developers.
  • Fosters relationships with current manufacturing vendors and develops new relationships as required when new components and technical solutions are required.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Significant demonstrable Systems Engineering skills
  • Experience transitioning prototypes to commercial release, e.g., configuration control, agency testing, and transferring engineering technology to a manufacturing environment.
  • An understanding of optical concepts and spectrometers
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Talent for driving a team to execute new product developments.
  • Previous technical leadership and personnel management experience a plus.
  • Solid interpersonal skills, including the ability to coach team members and foster positive working relationships with all levels of the organization and our external partners.
  • Effectively communicates complex, often technical, content.
  • Strong critical thinking and persuasion skills.
  • Willingness and flexibility to adapt to changing requirements.
  • Highly experienced in hardware design & development processes across a wide range of disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, industrial design, software, usability/human-factors, and manufacturing.

Preferred Skills/Abilities:

  • Altium or other PCB Design Software experience
  • SolidWorks or similar CAD software experience
  • Experience developing handheld analytical devices (such as Raman, FTIR, XRF, LIBS etc.)

Education and Experience:

  • B.A./B.S. or higher in an engineering discipline preferably Electrical Engineering
  • 3-5 years’ Systems Engineering experience or 7 years’ experience as an Electrical or Mechanical engineering role for the System Engineer position, or 7+ years’ Systems Engineering experience or 10+ years’ experience as an Electrical or Mechanical engineering role for the Senior System Engineer position.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
