Structure analysis of tolbutamide on temperature-dependent phase transition
Temperature-dependent polymorphism of tolbutamide was analyzed by XRD-DSC and single crystal X-ray analysis (SCX).
Changes of the crystal phase were directly tracked by utilizing XRD-DSC, and the 3D structure at every temperature
range was revealed by SCX.
- Tolbutamide is classified as an oral anti-diabetic agent, sufonylureas, which triggers insulin release to decrease blood sugar
levels by stiumlating potassium channels in the pancreatic beta cells
- Tolbutamide is used for adult patients with mild type-2 diabetes caused by obesity or stress who do not need insulin injections
- Tolbutamide is often used as a standard crystal due to its multiple polymorphism
