Simultaneous XRD-DSC - The Sum is Much Greater Than The Parts

Almost all analytical labs supporting the Pharmaceutical industry will have both Thermal analysis tools and X-ray powder diffraction. So, what is the benefit of combining simultaneous DSC and XRD measurements into a single attachment. It turns out that having the simultaneous thermal and powder data on the same sample yields a wealth of information that is often not easily accessible using each analytical technique separately. In addition to a discussion on the system itself, some of its benefits will be introduced.

TOPIQ | XtaLAB Synergy-ED: Single Crystal Structures from Powders

The Rigaku XtaLAB Synergy-ED is a fully integrated electron diffractometer, with a seamless workflow from data collection to 3D structure determination. The XtaLAB Synergy-ED is the result of Rigaku’s collaboration with JEOL, synergistically combining each partner’s core technologies: Rigaku’s hybrid pixel array detector (HyPix-ED) and CrysAlisPro software, and JEOL’s long-standing excellence in electron beam generation and control. Using MicroED, a three-dimensional electron diffraction method, single crystals of all classes below one micron in size can be studied. The XtaLAB Synergy-ED offers the ability to determine the single crystal structure from a single grain from powder samples. In fact, one can determine the single crystal structure of multiple compounds present in a single powder sample.

TOPIQ: High-throughput Soaking Condition Screening For Crystalline Sponges

This TOPIQ webinar will cover the application of the XtaLAB Synergy Flow robotic sample changer to accelerate development of successful soaking conditions for crystalline sponge preparation. The crystalline sponge method requires sponges to be placed into a solution of a target analyte so that the analyte may be absorbed by the sponge, also known as soaking. Successful soaking depends on factors such as concentration and temperature. Normally, a range of conditions might be attempted and for each an X-ray diffraction experiment is performed. The XtaLAB Synergy Flow can increase throughput by allowing batches of soaked sponges to be screened automatically and unattended to determine which conditions were the most successful.

TOPIQ: Micro-Powder Batch Screening on a Single-Crystal Diffractometer

Single-crystal X-ray diffractometers, such as the XtaLAB Synergy series instruments, though designed for single crystal experiments, can be used to collect perfectly good powder diffraction data as well. In contrast to classical powder diffractometers, this requires only microscopic amounts of sample which further enables the use of attachments like the XtalCheck-S which is generally used for in-situ screening of crystallization plates. By combining the plate screening capability of the XtalCheck-S with powder measurements, we can utilize the single-crystal diffractometer for automatically screening large batches of samples – with up to 96 powder samples in one standard well-plate and possibly even more.

Diffraction Methods for MOF Investigations

In the field of Metal-Organic Framework materials, structural investigation plays the most crucial role. It is also often combined with other analytical methods to allow drawing a connection between the structure and physical properties of the framework.
